This high quality mineral motor oil is specially formulated with a high level of zinc-dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) and phosphorus content. The strong shear film properties contained within this product ensures a constant high lubricity element, and provides extra protection, for example, of the flat-tappet cams, a technology often found in classic car engines.
The high zinc and phosphorus content provides extra wear protection needed at the critical contact faces of the components, ensuring that moving parts are lubricated according to the so-called 'splash-lubrication' technique. Zinc/phosphorus additives within provide excellent adhesion to the metal surfaces and can offer very good protection even when the lubricant film is pushed to its critical point.
For modern vehicles equipped with an exhaust gas after-treatment system due to meet environmental requirements, the amount of zinc/phosphorous is substantially lower than is desirable for most classic car engines. An oil with a high zinc/phosphorus-content, such as the MPM Classic High Zinc product, reduces the service life of these systems considerably.
